Welcome to Milford!

The Milford Police Department serves a resident population of about 17,000 and an area of 36 square miles. We are a department of Village government, also serving the surrounding Township of Milford. We are home to the General Motors Proving Ground and several square miles of parkland.

The Milford Police Department was officially established on March 3, 1943 when Floyd "Pop" Harger was appointed as the first Milford Police Chief. His salary was $2300 per year, and he furnished his own vehicle - a gray 1939 Mercury. In April, 1943, one patrol officer, Emmett Butler, was hired to assist Harger.
